He just told you that he loved you, and he led you on. He probably mentioned your future together, and even marriage.
He never loved you.
When he approached you, he never thought about love, because he did not love you. He only thought about how he could take from you, until you were left a dried-out husk.
What can I say to a scammer who thinks he loves me, but I don't want to be scammed?

These types of NPD men are a dime a dozen.
You gave him everything. That is what he was after.
